The community of Gilbertsville is located in the rolling hills of Marshall County, Kentucky, near Calvert City, the Tennessee River, and Kentucky Lake. This lovely, rural area has winding roads that weave around the borders of the lake and through the countryside with homes and properties, of all kinds. This community’s quiet streets and water views make it ideal for a nice walk, but if you don’t live near the water you can still get a lake side walk in at the nearby Kentucky Dam walking path. This nicely lit walking path crosses Kentucky Lake and offers priceless water views! When a new bridge was built over the Tennessee River, a walking path replaced the old road across Kentucky Dam, and has become a favorite spot of enjoyment for Gilbertsville residents.
There’s more to enjoy at the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, which is located in the heart of Gilbertsville. With offerings like their excellent marina, golf course, swimming pool, boat rental, and sandy beach for swimming, this resort fills up in the warm weather. A few times a year Land Between the Lakes (LBL) hosts Eagle Weekends where you can board a yacht at their marina to go on a guided tour. There, you will learn more about our majestic national bird and observe how they are thriving in the LBL area. Over-looking the Kentucky Dam and marina, is Kentucky Dam Village’s Harbor Lights Restaurant, where fresh food is served at every meal. This is a popular spot for the locals to dine, especially on a nice day when there’s time to walk the grounds afterward. Kentucky Dam Village also has a large convention center that has become one of Marshall County’s best places to host a large banquet or reception.
Gilbertsville has something for everybody. Besides having access to the lakes and Land Between the Lakes at your fingertips, which offers all the fishing, water recreation, and nature trails you would want, there’s more! For the biking enthusiast, the Calvert City Greenway Trail is is a brand new, multi-use trail that spans from the Kentucky Dam Village Resort all the way to Calvert City. For the kid at heart, Maggie’s Jungle Golf and Jungle Run is a long-time established attraction of the area. Under the shady canopy of trees, this jungle-themed mini golf course is fun even on hot, summer days. The fun doesn’t end with golfing. Get some of their shaved ice, and join the “jungle run” where there’s a myriad of live animals, including camels and peacocks to see. This experience brings the jungle theme to life! If you’re up for more thrill, experience Kentucky Shores Family Fun Center where you can fly in the air on a zip line, test your climbing skills on a rock climbing wall, race go-carts, and much more! The Kentucky Opry, in nearby Draffenville, provides clean shows year-round, featuring Gospel and Bluegrass music. This theater not only brings in some of the best local talent, also well-known musicians for entertainment that can be enjoyed by all ages. If you’re an antique junky, the Twin Lakes Antique Mall is just down the road. This sprawling place is always neat and clean, and is one of the largest antique malls in the area, bringing in people from all around to see the unique finds they have each week.
Experience a taste of some of the best fried catfish at Catfish Kitchen, which was just named one of 2020’s top 10 catfish restaurants in the South by Southern Living Magazine! Fresh food is served up in a rustic log cabin overlooking their own private lake. Catfish Kitchen is famous in the area for their catfish platters with all the traditional sides including delicious coleslaw, white beans, and unlimited bowls of the best hushpuppies. Their scratch-made blackberry cobbler will make your meal complete. Nobody leaves this place hungry, but if you do have leftover hushpuppies, wrap them up, go out onto the dock as you leave, and throw them in the pond to feed the fish! For a nice celebratory dinner, Patti’s 1800s Restaurant and Settlement, famous for their 2” pork chop and “mile high” meringue pies, is just across the bridge in Grand Rivers. The amazing food and inviting atmosphere is what brings people to Patti’s, but all the shops and activities around their beautiful grounds is what makes them linger. During the holiday season, Patti’s Christmas light display is something truly spectacular that has become a beloved local tradition, and is the perfect way to get in the holiday spirit!
